25 Awesome Free Activities For Leisure in London

It is time for the summer holidays, and I’m sure many will be going abroad. However, going on a trip to another country can prove time consuming and very, very expensive. You may think that since you can’t go overseas, you can’t enjoy fun activities. Fortunately, you would be completely wrong. There are many things to do right here in London that won’t cost you a penny. So, for those who don’t have the time or money to go abroad, here are 25 awesome free activities for leisure in London:

  1. Visit one of the largest and most comprehensive museums in history, with 8 million works, The British Museum.
  2. Take in the view on a stroll along South Bank right next to the Thames.
  3. Go to The British Library, one of the largest libraries in the world, with 170-200 million items from different countries.
  4. Head to the Tate Modern, which houses the UK’s national collection of international modern and contemporary art.
  5. Take a walk or ride a bike through Hyde Park, one of the most popular green spaces in London.
  6. Make your way to the Barbican Conservatory, the second largest conservatory in London, with over 2,000 different species of plants and trees.
  7. Visit the Sky Garden, located in the Walkie Talkie building with wonderful views across London.
  8. Stop by the Imperial War Museum, one of the best and most popular museums in London.
  9. If you are interested in design, head to the Design Museum by Holland Park that celebrates all things design.
  10. If you are a fashion lover, head to the Victoria and Albert Museum for amazing outfits and sparkling jewellery.
  11. For the same reason, head to the Fashion and Textile Museum.
  12. Planes, planes, planes! Stop by the RAF Museum interactive galleries and activities.
  13. Find out about money without spending a penny! Head to the Bank of England Museum.
  14. Take a trip to the Queen’s House in Greenwich, a former royal residence.
  15. Find some of the best street art in Brick Lane, with many exceptional murals.
  16. Visit the National Gallery, with collections of art dating back to the 13th century.
  17. Go to the Wallace Collection, which showcases beautiful paintings and ceramics.
  18. Travel to the Whitechapel Gallery, which premiers world class artists.
  19. See the National Portrait Gallery, which holds 215,000 portraits, more than anywhere else in the world.
  20. Walk through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for art and nature.
  21. Experience many free events and day long celebrations at Trafalgar Square.
  22. Wander around the Tower of London, which holds over a millennium of history.
  23. Go on the free London Sightseeing Tour, to see some of London’s most famous landmarks and features.
  24. For theatre lovers, see Shakespeare’s London where you find out about the people and landmarks important in his life and how he lived.
  25. Take your kids to Alexandra Palace, to see mesmerising views and glorious sunsets.

So, as you can see, whether you are an artsy person, a fashion fanatic, a nature lover etc, there are a lot of things for you to do in London without spending a penny, and there is no need to go overseas just to have new experiences. Take your friends, family, or even just yourself out and have fun for free in London.
