Hey, it’s Jed again. I’m taking over my mum’s blog for my work experience. My first post was about how to get boys reading. Today I’m writing about the summer before GCSEs. Enjoy!
6 Disgustingly Easy Ideas for your Summer Before GCSEs
The school year is finally over. We are finally done with the long, fatiguing 7 hour days, making us come home with all our energy depleted. And now, it is time for what we have all been looking forward to: the summer holidays. However, some of you may be confused about how to spend this time. Whether you want to boost your grades, explore new interests, simply recharge, or all of the above, I am here to help. To make sure you don’t waste the whole summer mindlessly scrolling on TikTok, here are 6 disgustingly easy ideas for your summer before GCSE year.
- Relax
After a long, gruelling year of school, withstanding Mocks and countless other exams, we all should have a very well deserved rest. Whether you spend your time reading, watching tv, playing video games, or whatever else you like to do, make sure you make the most of the summer holidays. Recharge and replenish your energy to ensure you are ready for the start of GCSE year. I know I’m going to relax as much as I can!
- Read a good book
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, reading is a great form of entertainment and reading a good book can bring you a lot of joy. Ask people you know for recommendations and try to pick a book based on your interests to make sure you will enjoy it fully. Books can also greatly increase the range of your vocabulary which can help you in your writing and so prepare you for your GCSEs. The library is often forgotten but it can be very useful as a place to find books or some peace and quiet.
- Make the most of the sunny days
As expected for the ever changing English weather, this summer will not be as sunny as I’m sure many people would’ve been hoping for. However, this means that we need to make the most of the few sunny days this summer will provide us. Call up your friends or family to go to the beach, go to the park, go swimming, whatever you like to do, just get out into the sunshine. I know personally when a sunny day comes around I want to be out with my friends playing basketball or football.
- Go on holiday/take a trip
Whether you’re flying to the Caribbean or riding a train to Margate, try and take a trip if possible. It’s a great way to take a break from just tediously sitting at home all day. If you don’t have the time/money to go abroad, there are many other inexpensive trips you can take, such as a small weekend camping trip, a day out at the beach, or a local festival. It can be fun to get away from your house and have a good time with your family or friends. I love to go on holidays, especially travelling abroad to experience the culture of other countries.
- Explore something new
Exploring new things can bring you many benefits, such as personal growth, enhanced creativity, expanded knowledge and increased confidence. It can be exploring anything, such as a new genre of books or tv series, a new activity such as just walking and seeing new sights, new music, etc. Exploring different tastes and interests can expand your own, and may help you find something to release stress or something that you really love. I personally want to expand my taste in music.
- Lock in
Although summer is a time for relaxation, it is also a time for preparation. We have our most important school year so far coming up and we need to make sure we are focused and ready to do well in our GCSEs. We need to set some time aside for our revision and homework alongside our relaxation, for example spending 30 minutes a few days a week revising. I’m going to spend the first few weeks zoning out and then focus and prepare for our next year of school.
In summary, we need to make sure to not waste our last summer in secondary school and try to enjoy it as much as possible. If you follow this disgustingly easy guide you are sure to make the most of these holidays before the final school year.
