I’m probably the opposite of a petrol head. I can hardly tell a Peugeot from a Porsche – but I know a pretty set of wheels when I see one.
It was on behalf of my readers, and my motor-obsessed boys, that I set out on an extremely rainy Sunday to cover the Chelsea Auto Legends car show.
Held at the very impressive grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea (home of former servicemen the Chelsea Pensioners), the show was only in its 2nd year but had a great turnout in spite of the weather.
Ezra was blown away to see so many Ferraris on one spot, along with vintage Mercedes, the Jaguar E-type (celebrating its 50th anniversary) and a line-up of Le Mans models still shiny from former racing glory.
Although at one point we were so drenched I’d have been happier to come across an Ark, it was exciting to step inside a brand new Airstream and fantasise about glamping in a seriously pimped out ride.
Chelsea Auto Legends was a fun, family-friendly event with bumper cars and other amusements, food and craft stalls and some really stunning vehicles.
Out of more than 600 classic cars on display, around half were owned by members of the public. Probably my favourite part of the event was at the end of the day, watching quite ordinary looking couples get into these fabulous cars and drive off.
But none had more swagger than the Chelsea Pensioners, barely able to walk yet carrying their pints around without spilling a single drop!

What great cars, my boys (and me) would have loved it.. You got to hand it to the Chelsea Pensioners don’t you..
LOL I know, I tried to capture a pic of three of them with their pints in hand but didn’t manage it in time! It’s a great show, pop it in your calendar for next year for sure!
