In eco-fashion terms, bamboo is the new black.

I’d heard so much about this plant that I instantly accepted an offer to review a bamboo baby blanket from Hello Baby Direct.

The Baby Royale blanket is 70 percent bamboo and 30 percent organic cotton and feels super soft.

It’s woven using yarns of different widths and twists to give each blanket a unique, handmade look.

The really clever thing about bamboo is that it produces enzymes with naturally anti-bacterial properties so bamboo crops are never treated with pesticides. What’s more, bamboo is hypo-allergenic, three times more absorbent than cotton and non-abrasive so it’s perfect for newborn skin to snuggle inside.

I’m in love with this blanket and wish I could keep it. But there are no actual babies in my household (not that you’d know it from the way this lot carry on sometimes).

I did think about trying to swaddle my 2-year-old for the fun of it.
