POW! How Elephants invented Yoga

February 28, 2011 //  by Uju//  2 Comments

While browsing at a discount bookstore the other day, I came across an absolutely delightful book called Babar’s Yoga for Elephants.

Probably one of the most famous trumpeters, Babar is a childhood icon for myself and millions of readers worldwide.

In this original work by Laurent de Brunhoff, Babar explains how – long before Guru Whatsisname was teaching yoga to the masses – the elephant community of Celesteville had been practising the ancient discipline.

In fact, the story claims, elephants invented yoga!

Babar takes us through a series of poses including Salutation to the Sun (with extra tips on how to use your trunk to deepen the stretch).

Yoga for Elephants is also a charming travel guide as Babar and his posse hit Manhattan, Paris and Rome, using yoga throughout to help relieve the stresses of the day.

When I began reading the book to Ezra, he was soon up trying out the poses.

Before long, Jed joined in.

Babar’s Yoga for Elephants is a wonderful introduction to yoga, no matter what your size, shape or breed.
