Welcome to the party, it’s going to be a tea party to remember! This May half term London spectacular explores the theme of forbidden fruit with a troupe of juggling masters, 100 apples, cinematic scenes and an afternoon tea. Pied Piper: A Hip Hop Family Musical at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XX (Waterloo/Embankment tube/rail)
Following their hit show and BBC film, Frankenstein: How to Make a Monster, the BAC Beatbox Academy returns to Southbank Centre for a blockbusting good time. It’s the eve of a mayoral election in Hamelin, can a mysterious rat catcher help local kids find their voices and rid the town of vermin? It Begins in Darkness at Brixton House, 385 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton SW9 8GL (Brixton tube)
Five dancers, one stage, many stories told through a series of movements, calls, whispers and wails. Conceived and directed by Seke Chimutengwende, this is a ghost story told through movement, reckoning with the histories of slavery and colonialism in an attempt to process a legacy of fear, confusion and rage. Track Handa’s footsteps all the way from her home in Kenya to meet her best friend Akeyo in the neighbouring village. She’s got 7 tempting fruits in her basket… perhaps a little too tempting! There are two brilliant family shows on the May half term London programme at Open Air Theatre. A lively adaptation of Roald Dahl’s picture book The Enormous Crocodile filled with puppets and catchy tunes. Tweens and teens might enjoy a self-guided scavenger hunt over the May half term London school break. Use an interactive map to unlock clues in two mystery games: The Case of Colombia’s Finest (recommended for ages 13+) or Will Breaker (recommended for ages 10+). All you need is a smartphone, comfy footwear and an eye for detail! Available times: 9am-8pm (depending on time of year).
