Inamo Review: Touch Screen Tables + Kids Eat Free!

August 10, 2017 //  by Uju//  2 Comments

Inamo Camden

When I first learned about INAMO, a restaurant chain featuring touch screen tables, I knew it would appeal to my gamer boys.

We were invited to check out Inamo Camden, their newest branch. The restaurant is just a short stroll from Camden Town, right opposite Mornington Crescent tube station.

It’s a swanky looking spot, with bench seating outdoors and a sleek, Manhattan meets Tokyo vibe to the decor.

We were ushered to our table where the boys’ faces lit up instantly.

‘You can play with the tables? Cool!’

Throughout our meal, Ezra and Jed were like, ‘I love it here!’ and ‘This place is sick!’

Our waiter showed us how to choose food and order off the menu from the iPad on our table. There’s a huge selection so it takes a little while, but the ordering process is quick and breezy. If you have any issues, you can dial a waiter right from your tablet.

Using mouse style gadgets on the table, you can find games, menus… there’s even a ‘chef cam’ feed so you can watch your food being prepared!

While the babes got playing, we went through a smorgasbord (seriously) of food options. The menu is pan-Asian with dishes built to share. Our order included Chicken and Vegetable Gyoza (dumplings), Singapore Noodles, Sichuan chicken and vegetarian Thai Red Curry with butternut squash and okra.

Abiye found the veg curry too sweet but I loved it and saved leftovers for lunch the next day. The rest of our meal was a hit. We especially enjoyed the Sichuan chicken and the dumplings. Everything went down beautifully with my lychee martini.

The kids’ portions are a decent size. Ezra and Jed wolfed down their Chicken Donburi with rice.

The children were too full for pudding (huh?!) so I had most of their Chocolate Dipping Dessert. Strawberries, brownie cake pops and chocolate popping candy. Yes please!

If you’re after somewhere different to take your munchkins for a bite, Inamo is definitely worth a look. It’s a gimmicky concept but frankly, it blew my kids’ minds.

Plus, the food is tasty and there’s so much variety. My family aren’t that into fish, but next time I’ll try their sushi platters. They also do Kids Sushi Masterclasses where children can make 2 maki rolls and take home 10 pieces to share.

Before we left, the babes challenged me to several rounds of Ping. It might take a few more visits before I can beat them!

Hi Uju, our review of Inamo Camden as below –
We had booked an igloo at Inamo Camden and had been told that we had to order the tasting menu at 45GBP per person in order to sit there.
We arrived on time and were eventually led to the igloo.  I was surprised to find that the table was poorly set, there was a used blanket on one of the seats and the small table within the igloo had leftover food from the previous occupants.  I had to ask the waitress twice to remove the used  and untidy blanket. She actually responded the first time that the blanket was perfectly fine as is.  We also had to ask twice before the leftover food was cleared from the igloo.
When we were about to eat, I found it quite embarrassing that the waitress pointedly mentioned in front of my guests that the meal was 45GBP per person as if to make sure that we were able to afford it.  I do not feel that this would have happened if we were white.
We were served some food but were surprised to find that after a couple of dishes, food stopped coming. We asked the waiter if that was all and he said yes.  We had to call the waiter’s attention to the fact that we had not been served half of the items on the tasting menu.  When we did this, eventually we were given the missing items.  Apparently if we had not called their attention, they were going to shortchange us.
When the bill came, I was glad that I checked it before we paid because I discovered that the restaurant did not net off the 50GBP deposit that they had insisted I pay. I had to call their attention to this to get it done.
All in all, we felt mistreated and short-changed, and couldn’t help noticing that we were treated more shabbily than the other guests.  I would not recommend this restaurant, especially not for international visitors to London.

Hi Eyitemi, wow I’m so sorry you guys had such a shabby experience. That is totally uncalled for and I hope you also made a point of reporting to the restaurant directly. We had a good time at Inamo Camden when we went but that was a few years ago and it’s a shame to hear that their standards have declined so much. Especially if there are racial overtones to the way they treat guests. Thanks for sharing your feedback and hope you have a better time at other spots about town (and do share any other restaurants you guys enjoy). Oh and Happy New Year! x
