It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a city parent in possession of a young child, must be in want of a scooter.**
Visit any London park and you’ll find toddlers, preschoolers and primary kids whizzing about on the popular Micro or Razr brands. But if your mini wants to stand out from the crowd, there are a range of other scooters worth exploring.
We were sent one of the award-winning Vtriker Elite scooters for my 8-year-old to review. I had often wondered about these 3-wheel scooters after spotting urban children slaloming around like they’re on the Swiss slopes.
Ezra hasn’t totally got the hang of the slalom movement (moving your body and feet to one side as you steer the other way). But what I did appreciate is how quickly he was able to get up and about on his very first ride.
What’s different about the Vtriker Elite scooter is there’s no pushing, pedals or batteries required: you simply stand on each side, move your legs in and out and you’re off and away!
It definitely ups the cool factor — people can’t take their eyes off Ezra when he’s out on his Vtriker Elite, someone always asks where they can buy one, and all his friends want to have a go. Ezra definitely feels like ‘the man’ when he’s riding about. Especially in his brand new Arsenal kit.
I like the Vtriker Elite because while Ezra still rides much faster on his regular scooter, this one provides more of a workout. Aside from the Slalom style, you can also use the Scissor (move legs in and out quickly) to increase your speed, or Skating (twist your body one way and push your opposite foot out) for that ‘boarder look.
Safety features include non-slip footplates, safety handles and dual braking system.
So far we haven’t found the Vtriker Elite as handy for a scoot around town as it’s slightly heavier to lug around at 9kg and a bit trickier to manipulate across pavement bumps and curves. But maybe it just takes more practice (after all Ezra’s been using the other type of scooter since he was 2 and a half)!
For a trip to the park or any other enclosed play space, the Vtriker Elite is a seriously fun and funky piece of kit. It’s also sturdy enough for the young at heart (that’s you, mamas and papas) to ride on too!
Vtriker Elite scooters are available in a variety of colours, retail £69.99. Visit www.vtriker.com

This looks very cool! Isabelle has been asking for a new scooter for ages, but did not want to get just another scooter, this looks like lots of fun, and very different to other scooters.

Ah I’m sure she would love one of these, especially if she likes to stand out and I know she does ;-)

Oh, my goodness… That is the coolest thing!!! I have never seen one around here but it looks to be a great way of learning basic coordination (and added bonus of getting some good exercise in). Thanks for the review!
