Festival Food: What to Eat at Camp Bestival

July 15, 2014 //  by Uju//  4 Comments

Surplus Supper Club

We’re getting dizzy with excitement about heading off to Camp Bestival in just over two weeks’ time. One thing we enjoyed at our first family festival experience two years ago was tucking into the fabulous food on offer.

For 2014, the Camp Bestival festival food line-up has mushroomed (ahem) into something quite spectacular.

Our very own Big Apple Hot Dogs aka Babe papa has been invited to trade at the festival but in the interests of fairness, we won’t banger on (sorry) about his sausages. The boys are just happy to have Daddy camping with us this year!

Camp Bestival Feast Collective

The Feast Collective

This year Camp Bestival has launched The Feast Collective, a brand new haven for food lovers featuring some big names in street nosh, independent chefs and artisan producers.

Eat your way around the world, from Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen to Crayfish Bob from Louisiana to Baba G’s Bhangra Burgers. Get sozzled schooled on fine wines at Knackered Mothers Wine Club’s wine tasting sessions.

There will be yummy treats from The Cake Shop Bakery, specialty roasts from Small Batch Coffee, and cooking talks and demos by food ambassador of pioneering Peruvian restaurant Ceviche.

You’ll most likely find me propping up the bar at Josie Da Bank’s Jam Jar Bar, a boutique lounge-in-a-caravan serving up decadent cocktails. Bottoms up!

Check out the Feast Collective line-up.

Zoe's Ghana Kitchen

Supper Clubs

We love the sound of Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen’s (pictured) Secret Supper Club (July 30) where just 20 diners will be treated to the popular Hackney outfit’s menu of slow cooked lamb Palaver stew, spinach and agushi, a palm wine ceremony and live Azonto performance!

And back by popular demand this year is the Surplus Supper Club (top pic), a team of award-winning chefs and volunteers who create healthy and delicious dishes from ingredients that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.

You could feast on anything from artisan bread and gourmet sausages for brekkie, marinated vegetables with charcuterie or chicken, chorizo and roasted pepper casserole for supper, or a hearty veggie, beef or lamb Sunday roast. Here’s a sample menu for the Surplus Supper Club.

**NB: both Supper Club events require booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

Oh you definitely must plan to go one year Vicki, it’s so much fan and I became a total festival convert after our first trip to Camp Bestival. Before that you couldn’t have paid me to go camping lol! The food does look totally yummy no?

I’m so envious of you going – I really hoped to make it this year but holiday planning of other people means that we are away when it’s on. Next year definitely! Have an amazing time!!
