Weekend Scoop for London Families (Mar 2-3)

With World Book Day today and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Friday, it’s tempting to stay indoors this weekend and curl up with a good book.

But there are loads of family-friendly activities going on around town and the sun’s peeping up, so get out there and enjoy!

Sat: Two Four Six Eight! at Lyric Hammersmith, Lyric Square, King St, W6 (Hammersmith tube)
Play with numbers, balloons, music and too much wrapping paper in this innovative show based around a boy going to a birthday party. For ages 4-7. 11am & 1pm, £8 (Mar 3)

Sat-Sun: Barbican Weekender: Urban Stories, Barbican Centre, Silk St, EC2 (Barbican tube)
This year’s weekender features street dance workshops with Boy Blue, free running with Streets United, Wah Nails pop-up bar, make an opera with the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company and more arts, dance, theatre, food and music with an urban twist. 10am-late, selected events ticketed, many events FREE (Mar 3-4)

Sun: Let’s Get on the Bus! at Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, SE1 (Waterloo tube)
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment hosts its very first Tots Concert at the South Bank with this fun and interactive musical session for ages 5 and under. 11am, adult £4.50/toddler £1 (Mar 4)

Sun: Pit Stop at Queensway, Bayswater, W2 (Queensway/Bayswater tube)
Petrolheads zoom to Bayswater for a day of family fun including F1 simulators, pit stop challenges, Giant Scalextric track, kids’ activity station, classic cars and rides from Scooby Doo, Knight Rider and other movies and a chance to meet the Original Stig (Top Gear). 11am-5pm, FREE (Mar 4)

Local Pick (Islington)

Fri-Sat: Mozart with Puppets at Little Angel Theatre, 14 Dagmar Passage, N1 (Angel tube)
Aurora Orchestra joins with the puppet company to bring Mozart’s works including The Magic Flute and variations on Twinkle Twinkle to life, for an audience age 2 and up. 10am, 11.15am & 1pm (Fri), 11am, 12.15pm & 1.30pm (Sat), baby-friendly show 11am Sat; £8/concs £6. NB: Sold out, returns only! (Mar 2-3)

Rawums (:), a clownish show for ages 2-5 at Barbican Centre (Mar 3-5); Family Arts, Crafts and Film Club at Chelsea Theatre, SW10 (Mar 3); a Vintage Tea Party at the Boogaloo in Archway (Mar 3); a Pop-Up Fair at Polka Theatre in Wimbledon; Korean fan dancing and folk in The Bird Princess at Lauderdale House (Mar 3); and the last party of the season at Disco Loco in Homerton (Mar 4)

    Barbican and Mozart with puppets sounds right up my street-apart from it’s not, it’s in that London town. *weeps.
