Pop Stars come out for Paralympics 2012

September 18, 2011 //  by Uju//  4 Comments

We rocked our socks off last weekend at Sainsbury’s Super Saturday, a massive party on Clapham Common to celebrate one year to go until the London Paralympic Games.

It was a snazzy affair, mingling with ‘celebs’ (from Pixie Lott to Eastender Heather Trott) in the VIP area and free food and drinks flowing all day long. I spent much of the time with bloggers Sandy Calico and Maria trying to figure out who was who, in between trips to the bar.

Amelle from the Sugababes went weak at the knees for my 2-year-old. I’m not sure Jed was similiarly impressed.

Of course the real stars of the show were the Paralympians – we watched live demos of sports like wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball (serious skills!) and I got goosebumps hearing the athletes’ inspirational stories.

There was fun and games for all ages and abilities and live music from the likes of Will Young, Dappy, The Wanted, Nicola Roberts and Olly Murs.

They’re not exactly my flavour, but I do like The Saturdays and by the time Chipmunk and Taio Cruz whipped the crowd into a frenzy, Maria and I were leaping up and down like teenyboppers.

By the end, it was all a bit Tinie Tempah.

‘Yeah, we bring the stars out’

‘Let’s have a toast or celebration, get your glass out’

‘And we can do this until we pass out’

Thanks to Sainsbury’s for a fantastic day out!
Tickets for the Paralympic Games are on sale here until Sep 26, 2011.

** Shout out to Maria for the extra pics!
