Create your Own London Map for Kids

August 20, 2011 //  by Uju//  2 Comments

You should have seen my 5-year-old’s eyes when he opened his package sent from Guy Fox earlier this week. ‘Wow Mum, this map is awesome!’

It’s a word that’s often over-used in the wrong context, but in this case Ezra was spot on.

The brand new super-sized Create Your Own London map seems to take up a quarter of Ezra’s bedroom floor. As with the Guy Fox London Children’s Map, it’s simplified yet highly detailed and lovingly illustrated to capture the imagination of any mini city wanderer.

What’s totally cool are the 4 sets of sticker sheets that let the babes decorate the map with sights and attractions that we’ve explored on our urban adventures. Within minutes, Ezra had stuck on HMS Belfast, London Eye, Hyde Park Corner, Big Ben and St. Pancras Station.

My 2-year-old was there in a flash too, adding boats on the Thames, trees in Battersea Park and soldiers by Buckingham Palace. I love that among 200+ stickers there are extra vehicles, characters and nature features so you can design London as you wish. Also that there’s enough space and stickers to keep four hands busy, without any squabbling (for almost 20 minutes)!

I told the boys that if they’re extra careful not to rough handle the map, maybe we can frame it and hang it on their bedroom wall some day.

Hats off to Guy Fox for another brilliant map that’s fun for any age. Now I’m wondering if they could do a ‘street’ edition of the little Londoners map, pointing out the local spots, vibrant communities and scenes that give this city flavour?

That really would be awesome.

Guy Fox Create Your Own London map is available at £12.95 from Amazon and all profits go towards the educational charity Guy Fox History Project.
