Bank Holiday Scoop (Apr 29-May 2)

It’s not all wedding bells. So what else is happening this Royal weekend? As always, we’ve got the scoop.

Fri-Sun: London Children’s Ballet at Peacock Theatre, Portugal St, Holborn WC2
A cast of 55 dancers aged 9 to 14 bring the Brothers Grimm’s fairytale Rumpelstiltskin to the stage, in a mesmerising show accompanied by a live orchestra. Suitable for ages 3+. 7.30pm (Fri), 1.30pm & 5.30pm (Sat), 12.30pm & 4.30pm (Sun), £14-50. (Apr 28-May 1)

Fri-Mon: Will & Kate get a free wild date at London Zoo, Regent’s Park Rd, NW1
It might seem like you can’t escape those names but if you share a moniker with either of the happy couple, you’ll get free entry to the Zoo over the entire Bank Holiday weekend. Cheers! Valid photo ID required. Offer also available at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. Open 10am-5.30pm (Apr 29-May 2)

Sat-Mon: Canalway Cavalcade, Little Venice, Paddington W2
The annual waterways festival brings a vibrant spectacle of over 100 boats, live bands, food, real ale bar and kids’ activities. Don’t miss the illuminated boat procession on Sunday evening (from 8.30pm). 10am-6pm (Sat-Sun), 10am-5pm (Mon), Free. (Apr 30-May 2)

Mon: May Day at Museum of London Docklands, Greenwich SE20
Celebrate this special May Day with a range of activities and workshops including making a Jack in the Green, hearing traditional English folklore and learning about the champion of chimney sweeps. 11am-4pm, Free (May 2)

Special Event
Mon: East End Film Festival Bicycle Symphony at Old Spitalfields Market, E1
Go on an interactive sonic and scenic journey around the East End in this pedal-powered film. Bring your own bicycle or bells to join the chorus in a live performance conducted by Amelia Robinson. 3pm, Free for all riders and walkers (May 2)

Sat: St George’s Day at St George’s Gardens, 62 Marchmont St, WC2 (King’s Cross/Russel Sq tube)
Celebrate St George’s Day a week late on this festive weekend with an afternoon of kids activities, food stalls, a traditional village fete atmosphere and a chance to explore the lovely gardens. 2-5pm, Free (Apr 30)
