Last week I got my first taste of video blogging, aka vlogging, with much thanks to British Mummy Bloggers who are launching a section on their brand new site dedicated to nothing but videos (more on this to come in a separate post).
Coincidentally on the same day, I also received the latest addition to the Leapfrog family, a Camera and Video connector for their Leapster Explorer handheld gaming console. Ezra was thrilled to bits and we’ll have a review up soon. Possibly a live one!
In the meantime, here’s some pretty cool news:
Lights, Camera, Leapster!
If you’ve got a diddy director in your household, they’re about to get a shot at the big time.
Leapster Explorer has joined forces with parenting network Netmums to create an open competition for budding filmmakers, in celebration of the release of the Leapster Explorer Camera and Video Recorder.
Kids aged 4 to 9 are invited to make a 90 second short film about a fun family day out and upload it to the Netmums site before the April 17 deadline. Entries will be judged by kids’ TV star Dave Benson Phillips, Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard and mum blogger Pippa Wright.
10 finalists will get to see their flicks premiered at a screening on May 31 (1.30-5.30pm) at the London Transport Museum where the final winner will be announced.
The 10 short-listed candidates will each get a Leapster Explorer console with Camera and Video Recorder. And the grand prize?
A family holiday to Florida!
Once my 2-year-old learns there’s a chance to get to Mickey Mouse country, I’m sure he’ll be trying to grab that camera out of Ezra’s hand to shoot his own entry!
Other future filmmakers can find inspiration in the video entries already uploaded on the Netmums site.
PS You don’t need a Leapster camera to shoot the film, any type of video will do.
