Before launching Babes about Town, I enjoyed discovering other blogs by metropolitan mamas all over the world.
One of my favourite finds was Urban Mums, the simple yet super chic blog run by Lindsey.
This mum-of-two captures the Big Smoke with an expat’s eye and an insider’s touch and her insights on city living make me feel lucky to be a Londoner.
I’m delighted to welcome Urban Mums into our VIB Lounge.
What is the definition of an Urban Mum?
An out ‘n about mum living in the city, specifically London.
What’s the best thing about raising kids in the capital?
Always so many things to do and see. In the summer, we have countless parks and outdoor space. In the winter, museums and theatre. Also love that my kids have friends from all over the world and I’ve met some pretty amazing London mums too.
And the funniest/strangest?
How much we pay to live in such small space!
Where do you shop, eat and play in the city?
Shop: for myself I love Comptoir des Cotonniers and Selfridges. For my kids: The Little White Company, Zara Kids, and the bargains at Gap and H&M rarely disappoint. There are also some lovely boutiques in Notting Hill (Caramel Baby & Child), but I usually wait for the sales there!
Eat: Borough Market, Waitrose, Gail’s Bakery, Raoul’s, The Wolsely, Le Pain Quotidien.
Play: Regent’s Park, Battersea and London Zoo, Parliament Hill, local theatres, Science Museum, Natural History Museum, Hyde Park Lido. We also love the courtyard at the V&A on hot summer days.
What is your favourite London hideaway with kids?
When we want to escape the busyness of London life, we head to Hampstead Heath. We usually hang out near Kenwood House, where a trip to the cafe (for ice cream or hot chocolate, depending on the season) is always a must!
And where do you go to escape the bubbas?
I love wandering the streets and neighbourhoods of London, checking out new shops and eating my way through local bakeries. Recently visited Cocomaya on my own and fell in love with their blueberry cream brioche. To die for! I am also a huge fan of Borough Market. It is much easier to navigate the food stalls sans children.
If you were having a private VIB party, who would you invite?
All my blogging friends and their kids, of course… and, OK, probably Gwyneth Paltrow and her kids too.
Tell us one thing your readers don’t know about you. Go on, spill.
I’m easily star-struck. I try to play it cool, but Jude Law in the flesh? I go weak in the knees!

Ah, thanks so much for your kind words and for letting me contribute to the VIB Lounge! xx
first of all I LOVE your blog design! I also love London. I used to travel there often for business (the Royal Lancaster was my home away from home) and really miss it now that my work keeps me domestic US. Looking forward to checking out more of your blog. Thanks!
Hi Charlene, well thanks for the compliment, I have a great designer. When were you last in London? Hopefully we can tempt you back soon enough ;-)
Thank you so much for your kind comments on my blog last week. Sorry about my slow response (sick children). I’ve enjoyed poking around your blog (and your VIB-er) and reading about things so far removed from my corner of the world (and your sense of humor!!! Things that gross you out about parenting! I laughed and hardily agreed). The UK is on our list of places to visit when the Littles get older. :)
Hi Rebecca, happy to have you here but sorry to hear your kids have been sick. Hope they’re on the mend now? I’m glad you enjoyed reading about my filthy habits. Seems to have touched a cord with many out there. Urban Mums is fab isn’t she? Be sure to check her out :-)
I love London and wish I was going again soon… this would be an awesome travel guide to take with me!
Stopping by from SITS.
Hi Citymouse, when were you last over? I do love living in London and Urban Mums provides great snapshots of the city.
