Summer’s here, the heat is on and the Big Dance is on its way. The week-long celebration of fancy footwork is planning to turn the capital into one giant musical stage.
Whether you’re all jazz hands or two left feet, there’s something for everyone – from tap and tango classes to Bollywood moves and belly rolls. Most of the events are free, family-friendly and provide a chance to burn some energy or just gawp at the true pros.
Trip the light fantastic at Go Islington, the dance and sports festival in Highbury Fields on Sunday, July 4. My good friend Charlene, aka Lady Hoola, will be hosting taster hoola hooping sessions as part of the run-up to the launch of our brand new workshops for mums and babes (tba soon!).
This Friday, head to Wembley Central Square (12-3pm) to brush up on your technique for the Electric Slide World Record Attempt at Brent’s Respect Festival in Roundwood Park (Sun Jul 4).
Other highlights include performances from Sadler’s Wells, English National Ballet and the crew at Pineapple Dance Studios (as featured on Sky’s guilty pleasure reality show) and a massive choreographed finale in Trafalgar Square on Sat Jul 10.
It will all wind down with Hoolafest in Shoreditch on Sun Jul 11 where there’ll be live Djs, rooftop terrace, Caribbean BBQ courtesy of Levi Roots (Mr. Reggae Reggae himself), free hooping lessons and of course a screening of the World Cup Final. Kids of any age are welcome until 6pm.
The Big Dance is at venues London-wide from Jul 3-11. Visit the web site for more info.

Greetings from Lamb! Thank you for stopping by to show me some bloggy love. It was quite a shock to wake up and discover that I’d been featured on SITS, especially with my face covered in sticky cinnamon! Now I have lots of fun new blogs to explore. If you do try out my face mask, be sure to take a photo and email it to me. I’ll feature you in a post with a link to your blog :)

Hi Lamb, thanks for coming by. I’ll be sure to mail you a pic of my cinnamon covered face when I get a chance!
That sounds like so much fun! Wish we had something like that over by where I live.
Hi there Fun on A Dime Lady, I know it’s just my cup of tea. I love the idea of one long party in the streets, but will probably be a bit tamer than that knowing the British character!
