One of my favourite expressions in West African pidgin English is ‘long-throat’ or ‘longer-throat’, basically meaning somebody who yearns for what somebody else has got (typically food).
I’ve adapted the phrase for our first ever Checklist of cool stuff new fathers might covet.
Ok, so he’s not done much of the heavy lifting (at least not since conception). But gone are the days when dad was happy with a slap on the back and a cigar.
Here’s a list of top 5 swag to add to his new papa swagger:
1. Stork Sak Jamie Espresso changing bag
This messenger style man-bag combines practicality (contains washable changing mat and bottle compartments) with functionality (doubles as a laptop bag) with film star cool (super dada Brad Pitt has been spotted rocking his Espresso around town).
2. Baby K’Tan baby carrier (pictured)
This double-sided sling provides both comfort and security for papa and his pup. Great for when you want to ditch the stroller and just strut your new dad stuff. Click here for UK sellers.
3. Personalised Silver Daddy Cufflinks
He can wear his heart on his sleeves with these classy links, engraved with Daddy on one square and baby’s name and birth date on the other. Available in silver plate, gold plate and sterling silver.
4. Hip Hop Baby CD
Twinkle twinkle not his thing? This CD contains 12 rap classics (including White Lines, Ready or Not and Gangstas Paradise) adapted for little ears – so daddy has no excuse not to rock the bubba to sleep.
5. IWOOT Digital Photo Frame Keyring
Encourage him to bore his mates with up to 31 rotating pictures of his progeny in this 8MB digital key ring from I Want One Of Those.

Hi Chyn5, great to have you here :-) I know what you mean about those lyrics. I find myself listening to Lil Wayne and such after hours or on earphones! Good thing my kids have such diverse tastes in music!
