Check 5: Mother’s Day Tea

March 13, 2010 //  by Uju//  4 Comments

No matter what ups and downs there are in life, your mother is one person you can turn to for comfort.

She is the original teacup in a storm.

So what better way to treat her this Mother’s Day than to splash out on a lavish afternoon tea with all the trimmings.

From cream teas to bespoke brews, we’ve picked 5 spots to suit every taste and budget:

1.Tea at Mudchute Kitchen
After an active day out at Mudchute Farm, settle down for a warm cuppa and cakes at this family-friendly kitchen in Isle of Dogs. Around £7 per head.

2. Afternoon Tea at Teasmith
Tea connoisseurs get a masterclass in quality brew, ‘epic cake’ and chocolate tasting sessions in Spitalfields. £13.50 head (weekends only)

3. Mad Hatter’s Tea at Sanderson Hotel
Queen of Hearts teacakes are the tip of this tastebud adventure at £20 per head or £26 with a glass of Veuve Cliquot.

4. G and Tea Time at The Langham
The hotel’s Palm Court is famed as the site of the original afternoon tea. Indulge in their historic selection with a side of gin and tonic. £39 (until April 30)

5. Van Gogh Afternoon Tea at Fortnum and Mason
Fine art and fine dining combine in this spread inspired by the Royal Academy of Art’s Van Gogh exhibition. £46 incl. show admission and poster. (ends Mar 14)

Mmm Heather, well Charleston just sounds like the right place to have a swinging tea party. Maybe you should start something up?
