Why My Boy’s a Winner! #PGRaisingOlympians

July 17, 2012 //  by Uju//  2 Comments

Raising Olympians

My 6-year-old Ezra is totally mad about sports – he’ll watch literally any sport on telly: footie, women’s hockey, darts… you name it (I pity his future girlfriends)!

More than watching, he loves to play but being highly competitive and innately self-conscious is a tough combination. Last Sports Day, he refused to run in the 75m dash despite being one of the fastest boys in his class.

This year I told him to just have as much fun as he could and Ezra threw himself into everything from the potato and spoon to the sack race.

Best of all, even though he admitted feeling ‘quite nervous’, he took part in the class sprint. He got lost in the shuffle, but his confidence soared.

His school turned Sports Day into an Olympics Sports Week and awarded ‘Olympics medals’ for various sports. Ezra got a Silver medal for coming 2nd in long jump (his best buddy Marcus got a silver in javelin).

The picture says it all. Ezra couldn’t have been happier if he was Usain Bolt smashing another world record. And Mum couldn’t be more proud.

This is a post for the P&G Raising an Olympian linky contest (to win a £250 spa day). Check out their series of videos by mums of Olympians, my pick’s Rose Kwakye, another proud African mama!
