The crystal-clear waters are just one of the many things that makes Greece one of Europe’s most appealing holiday destinations. While the mainland has its own delights, the real magic often lies in the islands. And what better way to explore than with a superyacht charter in Greece, offering the freedom to island-hop in style? The options are endless, but with a little bit of planning, you can ensure you really do make the most out of your trip.

Choose the Right Island

Choosing the right island when each has something unique to offer can not only be difficult but also make or break your holiday. So, take some time to research each island and find the one that’s best suited to you.

If you’re wanting a lively holiday, Mykonos or Santorini are great options as they have both a good nightlife and stunning beaches. Whereas Paros or Naxos are more suited to those after a quieter and more peaceful holiday.

Add Island-Hopping to Your Itinerary

The ability to island hop is arguably one of the best things about Greek holidays. It offers you the freedom to explore more than one location and experience slightly different cultures at ease. Below are some islands to consider when planning your island-hopping adventure:

  1. Santorini: The perfect location for a romantic getaway or cultural exploration. Known for its iconic whitewashed buildings and spectacular sunsets.
  2. Naxos: A quieter, but still charming island that shows a more authentic representation of Greek life.
  3. Mykonos: Mainly known for its nightlife, it’s perfect for those wanting a mix of relaxation and partying.
  4. Delos: A UNESCO World Heritage site that will transport you back in time to the heart of Greek mythology.
  5. Tinos: Renowned for its stunning architecture and religious significance, it offers a more peaceful and serene atmosphere.
  6. Paros: The perfect place to escape the crowds and to explore relaxed, charming towns.

Pick the Right Time

The time of year you go is also something to consider in order to avoid overcrowding, but still enjoy good weather. The high season runs from late June to mid-September, so expect large crowds during those months. If you prefer a quieter experience, it might be best to visit during the shoulder seasons (late spring or early autumn) when crowds will be on the smaller side, and the weather will still be ideal.

Plus, yacht rental prices can be more competitive during these months, meaning you’ll get more for your money. Whenever you go, picking up a Holafly’esim to travel to Greece will keep you connected with friends and family at all times.

Savour the Flavour

No trip to Greece is complete without indulging in its culinary offerings. Classic Mediterranean dishes tend to feature locally sourced ingredients, including olives and cheese, as well as fresh seafood and vegetables.

If you’re exploring by yacht, you have the added advantage of trying regional specialities, with meals often prepared using local, seasonal produce. You should take the opportunity to dine next to the sea and sample a variety of local dishes, including moussaka and tzatziki.

The Greeks also have a long tradition of winemaking, so don’t miss out on tasting the local wines. Santorini is known for its crisp Assyrtiko wine, made from grapes grown on the volcanic soil so be sure to try a glass…or two!
