Thinking about a trip to Disneyland Paris but want to stay somewhere beyond the resort hotels? Maybe you’re after a little more space, a touch of nature, or just a more budget-friendly option? You’re in the right place! Whether you’re looking for countryside charm, a holiday park with all the fun extras, or a cosy town nearby, I’ve got you covered. Here’s your guide to making the most of a Disneyland Paris holiday—without staying inside the Disney bubble.
Getting there from London
If you’re a Londoner planning a Disneyland Paris break, here are your main options for getting to Paris:
Eurostar
The easiest and most stress-free way is hopping on the Eurostar from St Pancras. The direct train to Disneyland Paris (Marne-la-Vallée station) takes just 2 hours 45 minutes—practically door-to-door magic! Even if you’re taking the standard Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord, a quick RER A train will get you to Disney in around 40 minutes.
Driving
If you’re packing up the car for a proper road trip, take the Dover to Calais ferry or the Eurotunnel (about 35 minutes under the Channel). From there, it’s a 3-hour drive to Disneyland Paris. The bonus – no luggage restrictions and no tired kids waiting around at baggage claim!
Flying
If you prefer to fly, Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, and London City all have direct flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). From the airport, the Magical Shuttle bus or TGV train will whisk you to Disney in about 10-15 minutes. Quick and easy, but factor in airport faff!
Staying near Disneyland Paris
If you like the idea of mixing Disney magic with fresh air and outdoor fun, then Eurocamp campsites near Paris might be for you. One favourite, La Croix du Vieux Pont, is about 90 minutes from Disneyland Paris and is packed with activities – swimming pools, canoeing, mini-golf, and even a sandy beach! Plus, there’s a handy coach service that takes you straight to Disneyland Paris for a day of adventure.
Village Nature Paris (Center Parcs) offers a dreamy mix of nature and comfort and is just 15 minutes from Disneyland Paris. Enjoy thermal pools and treetop adventures. The little ones will love meeting the farm animals.
Serris & Val d’Europe are close to the action without the Disney price tag. These budget-friendly hotels are also near enough to the shopping outlet at La Vallée Village—because who doesn’t love a little retail therapy?
Getting to Disneyland Paris
If you’re staying outside the resort, here’s how to reach the magic:
- Drive & Park: Parking at Disneyland Paris is around €30 per day—ouch, but convenient!
- Shuttle Buses: Many hotels and holiday parks offer direct shuttles so you can avoid any hassle!
What to do beyond Disneyland Paris
If you’re making a holiday of it, then there’s plenty more to explore in the area.
1. Parc des Félins
This is a fantastic day out for animal lovers, especially if your kids are fascinated by big cats. This conservation park, home to over 140 felines, lets you see rare and endangered species up close while learning about their habitats. It’s a brilliant contrast to the fast-paced excitement of Disney.
2. Château de Fontainebleau
For a touch of history and grandeur, Château de Fontainebleau is well worth a visit. This UNESCO-listed palace, once home to French royalty, is a breathtaking sight with its opulent interiors and vast gardens. Kids will love exploring the grand halls and imagining themselves as little princes and princesses, while adults can soak up the rich history of this spectacular château.
3. Meaux
Cheese lovers should make a stop in Meaux, the birthplace of the world-famous Brie de Meaux. This charming town offers a chance to sample the finest local cheese, visit the Brie de Meaux museum, and wander its picturesque streets. It’s a delicious and relaxing way to break up your theme park adventure.
4. Provins
For something truly different, take a trip to this beautifully preserved medieval town. It’s like stepping into a fairy tale, with cobbled streets, ancient walls, and live jousting shows! Kids will be mesmerised by the medieval performances, and the whole family can enjoy exploring this unique historical gem just an hour from Disneyland Paris.
Final thoughts
As a London mum, I know how much planning goes into a trip like this. The Eurostar is hands-down the easiest option, but if you fancy a longer adventure, driving and staying outside Disney can make for a more flexible and affordable break. Whether you’re glamping, booking a cosy Airbnb, or settling into a nearby town, there are so many ways to make your trip extra special. Wishing you a holiday full of fairy-tale moments and stress-free fun!
