Most things in life are more powerful and meaningful when done with others.
This is especially true when it comes to raising money for a charity. When you are looking to raise funds for a charity you care about, you will likely take to social media and other platforms to get support from friends and others who support the same cause.
However, the answer to having a successful fundraiser may be closer to home. This article will walk you through how to get your entire family involved in raising money for a charity you care for.
Choose a Cause You All Care About
When it comes to raising money for charity as a family, you need to all be on the same page. So, to begin with, sit down and talk about which charities you feel passionately about. If you have lost a family member to cancer, you will probably want to raise money for Macmillan. Or, if you have concerns about mental health issues, you may be eager to raise funds for the charity Mind. Just be sure you all agree on the charity before you begin your fundraising.
Look at Strengths and Weaknesses
Now is the time to be honest; if you want to raise money by taking part in a marathon, is everyone going to be able to do that? Not likely. However, if you have a brother who loves to run, he can do that part while you raise awareness in the community and your tech-savvy teenage kids raise awareness via social media.
Of course, the roles will change based on the method you are using. An older relative may be able to bake goods for a charity bake sale. The most level-headed person should also be given the task of handling the money and donations.
Make It as Fun as Possible
Nobody wants to take part in something that is boring, especially if it is meant to be something as meaningful as raising money for a charity.
Do some research and aim to turn the fundraising event into something you can all enjoy. This could be a bake sale, a garage sale, or even hosting a themed event, such as a coffee and cake morning. The last thing you want to do is put your kids off the idea of raising money for a charity in the future.
Get Online
Remember earlier when tech-savvy teenagers were mentioned? They can help promote the events you are holding, but this is the perfect time to expand your cause via your own social media platform, too. Reach out to friends, family who are abroad, and colleagues to get them involved in the fundraising event. The more eyes on the same goal, the more likely it is to be successful. You could even create a website for your family’s fundraising and document the event so everyone who has donated to the cause can see the outcome and will be aware of how much money was raised.
