Bunnies and chicks, start your um… engines?? We’re hopping with excitement for the Easter holiday and yet again, I’ve put together the 10 Best Easter Egg Hunts in London. Chocoholics can follow our Easter egg trail (by date order) across some of our favourite spots around the Capital. 1. Easter Egg Hunts at St Pancras International, Euston Road, N1C 4QP (Kings Cross St Pancras tube/rail)
Pop along to the famous station and enjoy a special treat with The Great Golden Egg Hunt at Fortnum & Mason. Buy a Build Your Own Sundae and if you find the golden egg, you’ll become Fortnum & Mason’s official Ice Cream Taste Tester for 2016. This delicious sounding gig involves going behind the scenes to try out their handmade ice creams. While you’re at St Pancras, check out the 66cm limited edition showpiece Atelier Easter Eggs on display in Godiva. Choc and awe! (Mar 24-28)
2. Easter Egg Hunt on the Epping Ongar Railway, Ongar station CM5 9AB or North Weald station CM16 6BT (via Epping tube)We loved riding on the heritage steam and diesel trains at Epping Ongar Railway, and there are some special surprise this Easter weekend. All aboard for the longest Easter egg hunt in Essex, with big prizes for the most found, plus face painting, Bunny Hop kids disco and tea for grown ups. 3. Easter Egg Trail at Battersea Park Zoo, Queenstown Rd, south of Chelsea Bridge, SW11 4NJ (Battersea Park/Queenstown Rd rail, Sloane Square tube)
Once again, the zoo animals are hiding colourful eggs in their enclosures. You can use a quiz sheet to help you track them down and win a chocolate egg for your hard work. From 10am-5.30pm, £1 + zoo entry adult £8.95/child £6.95/family £29 (Mar 25-28)
4. GIANT Easter Duck Trail at WWT London Wetland Centre, Queen Elizabeth’s Walk, Barnes, SW13 9WT (Barnes Bridge rail/Hammersmith tube)
Some ducklings at WWT London have gone AWOL and it’s your chance to find them on the GIANT Easter duck trail around the nature reserve. Find them all and win a Cadbury’s Freddo Frog, plus you can make a LEGO brick duckling to take home (£5 per model). 10am-5pm; £1 per trail plus regular admission (Mar 25-Apr 10)
5. Easter at Kew Gardens, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 3AB (Kew Gardens tube/overground)
Follow the Lindt Gold Bunny Flavour Trail for a special Easter exploring the story of chocolate, from the cacao tree all the way to our tummies! There are clues all over the gardens, find them all and pick up a chocolate treat from the on-site stores. On Easter Sunday the first 4000 visitors get free Lindt Bunny ears. Kew is gorgeous in the springtime, so head down for a brilliant family day out. 10am-7pm, adult from £12 adv/child from £2.50 adv/under 4s FREE (Mar 25-Apr 10)
6. Easter Treasure Hunt & All Aboard the Easter Train at Granary Square, 2 Granary Square, King’s Cross London N1C 4BH (Kings Cross St Pancras tube/rail)
Track the Easter Treasure Hunt trail around Granary Square for a chocolate treat (Mar 24-Apr 2) and on Easter Saturday you can climb aboard the Easter Train, starting from Granary Square where you’ll meet giant bunnies armed with treat baskets, and make Japanese inspired Easter eggs. Then ride to King’s Cross Pond for an Easter egg hunt. Finally you’ll journey to the Skip Garden for tours and a chance to meet the spring chicks. 7. at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, 2 Whitehall Court, SW1A 2EJ (Embankment/Charing Cross Rd tube)
The world’s biggest toy store has joined force with the fabulous, family friendly Royal Horseguards Hotel for a delicious Easter party. Come along for Easter egg hunts, chocolate nest making, an Easter buffet and a VIP Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prize up for grabs. You can also meet and greet the Hamleys bear, rag doll and toy soldier and there’s a goody bag for every kid. 12pm; adult £45/child £20 – 1 child goes FREE for every paying adult! (Mar 26)
8. Gabriel’s Wharf Easter Family Fun, SE1 9PP (Waterloo/Embankment tube)
Hop along to the South Bank for Easter egg hunts around the treasure trove of arts and crafts shops, restaurants and bars. There’s free Easter egg and egg basket decorating for kids under the bandstand, and a Gabriel’s Wharf Scavenger Hunt for adults with a £50 prize. Shops open 11am-6pm, kids crafts 12am-3pm, FREE (Mar 26)
9. Horniman Easter Fair at Horniman Museum, 100 London Rd, SE23 3PQ (Forest Hill overground)The hugely popular museum throws open its doors for another Easter weekend fair, with live music, arts and crafts stalls, farmers’ market, Easter crafts, Easter egg hunts and a chance to say hi to the Horniman bunny. Also a good time to scope out the giant eggs in the Dinosaurs: Monster Families exhibition. Just don’t try to eat them! 10.30am-4.30pm; entry to museum and gardens is FREE, £1 for egg trail + additional fees for aquarium and select exhibitions e.g. Dinosaurs, prices from adult £7/child £4/family of 4 £17(Mar 26-27)
10. The Great Egg Roll at Lauderdale House, Waterlow Park, Highgate Hill, N6 5HG (Archway tube)
Hurry, hurry, this one sells out fast! The Great Egg Roll at Lauderdale House is an annual competition for who can roll their egg the furthest down the hill. Also come for Easter egg hunt and egg decorating in lovely surroundings, with prizes for best dressed eggs. Tickets sold from 10.30am (arrive early, first come first served), event 11am-1pm; child £7/accompanying adult FREE (Mar 27)
LOCAL PICK (ISLINGTON)
Easter Fun Day at Freightliners Farm, Sheringham Rd, N7 8PF (Highbury & Islington Tube)
Fun time at the farm over Easter with the annual Easter bonnet parade, along with Easter egg hunts, kids arts and crafts, stalls, tom bola, face painting, gardening, and tasty veggie food. 12-4pm, FREE (donations welcome, some activities may have a small fee) (Mar 27)
NATIONAL TRUST EASTER EGG HUNTS
The annual National Trust Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts gives families an opportunity to explore some stunning properties and gardens in and around London: hop over to Sutton House Breaker’s Yard (Hackney), Fenton House and Garden (Hampstead), Morden Hall Park (Morden), Ham House (Richmond), Osterley Park and House (Isleworth), Red House (Bexleyheath), Claremont Landscape Garden (Esher) and more.
