Milo & Hector’s Tremendous Ice Cream Sandwiches (Eat London with Kids)

August 26, 2014 // by Uju// Leave a Comment

Milo & Hector's Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ice cream sandwiches have become a staple dessert at Babes HQ. They’re so simple to make (two cookies and a slab of ice cream in between) and create a sweet treat that takes you right back to childhood.

So it took me about two seconds to accept an invitation to Milo & Hector’s Tremendous Ice Cream Sandwiches presents A Night at the Movies last week.

The event had a late start (8pm) but since it’s the holidays there were loads of little guests staying up past bedtime.

Milo & Hector's present A Night at the Pictures

Some of the kids lounged on huge bean bag cushions in front of the screen, while others sat with their adults on large deck chairs.

The evening set a nostalgic mood with clips from classic cartoons, e.g. Tom & Jerry, Mickey and friends and Woody Woodpecker, providing our on-screen entertainment. It always tickles me hearing young kids literally guffawing with delight at these old-school ‘toons. Sheer comic brilliance.

Milo & Hector's White Russians

On arrival, I was handed a White Russian cocktail in a milk bottle with paper straw. It was delicious and surprisingly strong and I still regret not taking one or two more home with me! Here’s a White Russian recipe if you fancy a tipple.

There were also chocolate milkshakes for the minions, and toy monkeys to cuddle.

But let’s talk about those ice cream sandwiches: served from a customised vintage-style ice cream van (1965 Piaggio Ape, dontcha know!), Milo & Hector’s Tremendous Ice Cream Sandwiches offers a variety of rich, chunky cookies in tempting flavours like Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Caramel Raisin.

Milo & Hector's Ice Cream Sandwiches Cookies

You can mix and match your cookies with a generous scoop from one of four all gelato flavours as your ‘sandwich filler’. I had vanilla ice cream in Butterscotch cookies and I’m not ashamed to tell you I went for a second helping not long after.

Ezra tried the Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter, but his favourite was the Butterscotch cookie. Jed was happy with ice cream by itself.

It was a beautifully put together event, made even sweeter by the actual Milo and Hector (owner James Stephenson’s sons) introducing the films. Those boys, and their namesakes, will go far.

What the Babes Said

‘We loved the ice cream sandwiches (Ezra: ‘The cookies were yummy, Mummy!’) and the cartoons were so funny! Thanks Milo & Hector’s!’
