Weekend Scoop for London Families (Jan 17-20, 2013)

We’re sticking with indoor fun mostly this weekend although you can get an outdoor feel at the London Bike Fest. Here’s what else is going on around town for London kids and their grown-ups:

Thu-Sun: The London Bike Show at ExCel London, One Western Gateway, E16, Royal Victoria Dock, London E16 (Custom House DLR)
See the coolest concepts on 2 wheels, explore the latest gear from major cycling brands, watch stunts, learn about outdoor photography and more. 10am-6pm (Thu, Fri & Sun), 10am-7pm (Sat); adult £16/under 16s FREE (Jan 17-20)

Thu-Sun: Dogs Don’t Do Ballet at Little Angel Theatre, 14 Dagmar Passage, N1 (Angel tube)
Pups en pointe in this charming and funny puppet theatre for ages 2-6. 10am, 11.30am & 1.30pm + 10am baby-friendly Sunday shows; adult £10/child £8 (until Jan 27)

Fri-Sun: London Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace, Alexandra Palace Way, N22 (Wood Green tube)
Thomas the Tank engine fans and their enthusiastic papas are in heaven at this huge show featuring 1000s of model planes, trains and automobiles in the Great Hall. 10am-5pm, adult £10/child £5.50 (Jan 18-20)

Sat: Deloitte Family Day at Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens, W2 (Lancaster Gate tube)
Join filmmaker James Melcomb in a special workshop for families teaching you how to create film loops and colourful light projections. All ages welcome. 12-5pm, FREE (Jan 19)

Sun: Mwalimu Express at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green Rd, E2 (Shoreditch High St overground)
The family-friendly monthly party train pulls into Zimbabwe this Sunday with some dynamic, booty-shaking music from virtuoso marimbist Kuda generating enough tropical heat to help you forget the wintry weather. Plus African stalls, face painting, toddler dance, food and a screening of the documentary ‘Robert Mugabe… What Happened?’. 2-7pm, FREE (Jan 20)

Thu-Sun: The London Art Fair at Business Design Centre, Islington, N1 (Angel tube)
Head to the popular art fair showcasing cool and modern pieces from more than 100 galleries. You can also listen to talks and take gallery tours. 10am-7pm (Sat) and 10am-5pm (Sun); adult £16/concs £12 (Jan 19-20)
