There’s no such thing as a free lunch, or so the popular saying goes, but a unique event in the heart of London this Friday sets out to prove that wrong.
Spearheaded by anti-food waste campaigner Tristram Stuart, Feeding the 5000 is offering a complimentary alfresco meal to Londoners at Trafalgar Square.
Turn up between 12pm and 2pm for a plate of hot curry served up by none other than Mayor of London Boris Johnson and his back-up troupe of volunteers. All the food will be made from vegetables that would otherwise have been trashed unnecessarily.
Also at the event you can see cooking demos, chat with organisations like Love Food Hate Waste, watch recycling live in action with food stock used as pig feed and try your hand at apple pressing.
Our tip? Arrive early as it will be a miracle if the food doesn’t run out.
12-2pm TODAY, (Nov 18), at Trafalgar Square, WC1 (Charing Cross tube)
UPDATE: Chef Tom Hunt was one of the clever cooks creating dishes out of food waste at the Feeding the 5000 Event. Find more recipes at his blog, Tom’s Feast
