Weekend Scoop for London Families (Oct 21-23)

October 20, 2011 //  by Uju//  Leave a Comment

We’ve got our snouts out for Peppa at Hackney Empire, just one of many fun things to do for London kids and families this weekend. Paint the town pink!

FREE PICK
Fri-Sun: Bloomsbury Festival, around Bloomsbury WC2 (Russell Sq tube)
Kicking off with a magical lantern parade through Russell Sq (Fri, 6.30pm), the annual celebration offers up the best of Bloomsbury from gardens, cinema and shopping to live music, crafts and workshops.

Family highlights include Thomas Coram Live at Foundling Museum (Sat 10.30am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-4pm), the House of Tall Tales and Small Stories at Coram’s Field (Sat 10am-6pm & Sun 11am-7pm) and the Pedal-Powered Postman from the Past in Russell Sq (Sat, 10am-4pm). Visit the web site for the full programme. All events are FREE (Oct 21-23)

Sat-Sun: Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt at Hackney Empire, 291 Mare St, E8 (Hackney Central rail)
Little trotters hurry along to catch the oinkredible story of Peppa and her gang heading for an adventure on Grandad’s boat. Packed with songs, games and true to life puppets. 10am, 1pm & 4pm; adult £10-£16.50/child £8-£14.50 (Oct 22-23)

Sat-Sun: The Big Draw at the Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace, SW1 (Victoria tube)
Find inspiration in the stunning displays and surroundings and sketch or scribble away at this artist-led workshop in the Activity Room. 12-3pm, adult £8/under 5s FREE (Oct 22-23).

Sun: Rapha Super Cross at Alexandra Palace, Alexandra Way, N22 (Wood Green tube)
Get on your bikes for the third round of supercharged cyclocross racing (and a large streak of silliness) with race categories from under 10s to seniors, plus loads for spectators to enjoy including Belgian beer, frites and waffles. 1pm, FREE (Oct 23)

Sun: LPO Funharmonics Family Concert: Nutcrackers at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, SE1 (Waterloo tube)
Join in with a rousing concert for all ages featuring Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Stravinsky and more. Have-a-go sessions from 10.30am-2pm in the foyers. Show 12pm, £10-£18/kids half-price/pre-show workshops FREE (Oct 23)
