The wily spider of Caribbean legend is up to his old tricks again as he pits his wits against a snake in this lively storytelling event, part of the free Summer Fridays series in the Horniman gardens. 12.30-1.15pm & 3.30-4.15pm, free (Aug 5)

Sat: Behind the Screen Gaming Day at Somerset House, The Strand WC1 (Charing Cross tube)
It’s game on at this special event with Nintendo Lounge action for kids of all ages, plus a masterclass and a workshop to design and create a game of your own. Nintendo Lounge 11am-5.30pm, free, drop-in; Games Invaders family workshop 11am-4pm, free, limited spaces; Masterclass in Gaming Design 3.30-4.30pm, £5, booking required (Aug 6)

Sun: Summer Festival at V&A Museum of Childhood, Cambridge Heath Rd, E2 (Bethnal Green tube)
Spend a day out with families from near and far enjoying rickshaw rides, face painting, cakes, stalls, arts and crafts, plus another chance for kids to be a Vegetable Nanny and take care of their own lifelike veg! 11.30am-4pm, free (Aug 7)

Fri-Sun: Bob the Builder at LolliBop Festival, Regent’s Park, NW1 (Baker St tube)
Everybody’s favourite construction worker is a surprise addition to the bill that includes Rastamouse, Charlie & Lola, Zingzillas, Roald Dahl museum and tons of activities for kids aged 10 and under (and their grown-ups too). 12-8pm, tickets from £18 (Aug 5-7)
