John Lewis Celebrates Christmas in July

July 18, 2011 //  by Uju//  Leave a Comment

It’s not every morning I find myself swigging a shot of vodka in a ‘Jazz’ bar in Bloomsbury.

Let’s call it the perks of being a ‘mummy blogger’ – attending an exclusive preview at Victoria House of the John Lewis Christmas range and sampling their new stock of Chase Marmalade Vodka. Very smooth.

I’m a big fan of John Lewis: I love its clean, uncluttered design, the warm cafe and cosy baby room, the efficient and personable customer service. Their toy department, with its mix of timeless and novelty items, is a great place to scout for gifts.

As we wandered around the various interiors, toys and fashion displays in the Christmas Shop, I could feel bank cards trembling in my wallet.

We’ll be publishing our Gift Guide later this year, stacked with goodies handpicked from John Lewis’ collection. Until then, here are a few things to salivate over:

Fantasies of a Nigella Christmas? This Kenwood mixer will meet you more than half way.

How sweet is their wooden advent house? Perfect for girls, but even my boys would get loads of play out of it.

I’d love to see my baby niece all wrapped up in this onesie.

Kiddimoto scooters are the last word in pre-school cool.

And I’m not even a coffee drinker, but the Krups Nespresso Pixie turned my head.

Top marks to John Lewis for an enjoyable event, for the tasteful gift bag and of course a special thanks to the ladies who looked after my toddler for 2 hours while mummy ‘shopped’. Jed had a great time with all those toys!

Might I suggest you make babysitting a regular in-store service? That would be the ultimate Christmas treat.
