The heat was on last Sunday when Baby Loves Disco took over the Stratford Circus for its Sponsored Danceathon in aid of Tommy’s baby charity. And it was a stone groove.
Kids of all ages, from babes-in-arms to pre-tweens hit the floor to show off their fancy footwork.
The actual contest was held over a three-song set and I was on the judging panel along with Ann, a rep from Tommy’s and Sue, creator of fitness class PopDance. As the little ones did their thang we circled the dance floor trying to pick our favourites.
It was a tough call. These kids really put their hearts, souls and hips into the competition. There were some obvious stand-outs – including one boy who did the splits and a toddler in a hippy shirt whose funky steps stole the limelight.
But there could only be one winner and the judges were unanimous in picking Elsie, aged 6, a natural mover who impressed us early with her rock chick attitude.
I’m excited about the next leg of the contest at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill where we’ll be selecting another London finalist.
And I’m also happy to be offering a free Family Pass to our competition winner Rob.
Congratulations Rob, I’m sure you and your crew will have a blast. We’ve sent an email to you with details of how to collect your prize so do check your inbox.
Baby Loves Disco is at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill from 2-5pm on Sun Nov 14. Tickets £8 for all walking humans. Those who enter dancing contest will be raising money for Tommy’s the leading charity investigating ways to overcome premature birth, miscarriage and stillbirth.
Justine Wright and daughter Elsie Cole, 6, winner of the Baby Loves Disco Danceathon at Stratford Circus
‘I think it’s fab that Elsie won. Her sister’s really good at dancing too so she obviously takes after her. We’ve come to Baby Loves Disco at Stratford Circus several times and I love it. It’s about the only time I get to have a dance as well!’
