There’s nothing like a game of ping pong to put some spring in your stride. The rhythmic tapping of ball against table against bat creates an almost meditative state. It’s competition with a Zen-like attitude and it’s coming to a spot near you.
Ping London is an innovative scheme that will see 100 ping pong tables set up around London from major landmarks to squares, estates and shopping centres.
So whether you’re browsing at Westfield or waiting for a flight at Heathrow Terminal 3, you’ll be able to try your hand at a free game.
Created by the same people that put Street Pianos around town last year, it’s part of a drive to get more Londoners playing sport by 2012. Each ping pong table will feature a range of activities such as a Singles event, a literary ping pong quiz (at the British Library) and Smash the City, a league tournament.
We’re just crazy about this idea because it encompasses almost everything Babes about Town is about: fun, family time, originality and an opportunity to raise your game.
At the tender age of 4, Ezra is already a table tennis fanatic having ‘mastered’ his stroke on Wii. The Ping Pong event (pictured) at the Barbican earlier this year was definitely the highlight for my boy.
So you can bet your free bat and ball that we’ll be at the launch of Ping London this Thursday at St. Pancras to catch the exhibition matches and of course the sing and ping sessions!
