Fancy a taste of authentic Indian cuisine that doesn’t cost a bomb?
Masala Zone is a vibrant chain with branches across London including our local on Upper Street in Islington.
But it was their Covent Garden site that drew us in during the pre-Xmas crush.
Despite being rushed off their feet, the staff were extremely welcoming, ushering us to our table with high chair and instantly whipping out colouring sheets and crayons for the kids.
The boys were entranced by the myriad Rajasthan puppets dancing from the ceiling (ok, Ezra was a little freaked out about the masks on the wall leading to the downstairs toilets) and all of us were seduced by the gorgeous smells coming from the kitchen.
I ordered a Butter Chicken Thali – a traditional Indian mixed platter of meat, rice and veggie dishes. It offered enough for the kids to dip into, with an extra helping of warm naan bread.
The kids menu at £4.15 (for under 7s) is reasonably priced with good variety, if your children have adventurous taste buds. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much we went back for seconds early into the New Year.
