The Little Match Girl: A Wonderful Family Christmas Show

November 20, 2017 //  by Uju//  6 Comments

The Little Match Girl at Sadler's Wells

A stage covered in snow. An imaginary Italian town. A street girl searching for just one match to keep her warm. The Little Match Girl at Sadler’s Wells is a dazzling dance theatre piece, adapted from the classic fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen. Back by overwhelming demand at the Lilian Baylis Studio Sadler’s Wells for its fourth consecutive Christmas season, The Little Match Girl is a tale of hope and transformation. The story is beautifully expressed through original live music and performance.

Christmas Magic

Few things say Christmas to me like settling in a darkened theatre, waiting for the curtain to come up. I’ve had so many goosebump moments with my family, watching Christmas shows like The Snowman at Sadler’s Wells. With memorable characters and vivid storytelling, The Little Match Girl is set to become another family favourite.

Award-winning director & choreographer Arthur Pita has crafted a production to take your breath away. The Little Match Girl draws on themes of family and homelessness, so poignant to the Christmas period.

Spellbinding Family Theatre

Corey Claire Annand reprises her role as the little match girl, wandering dark streets, cold and hungry. She sees a vision of her grandmother who guides her up into the night sky, all the way to the moon. Look a little closer and, on a clear night, you just might catch a shooting star. Or is it the light of a match burning brightly?

Experience the magic of The Little Match Girl with set and costume design by Yann Seabra and special lighting effects by Ed Yetton. Original cast members Valentina Golfieri and Angelo Smimmo, Faith Prendergast, Karl Fagerlund Brekke and Amir Giles play alternating roles. The poignant musical score is performed live on stage by composer Frank Moon.

The Little Match girl is at Sadler’s Wells from mid-December to Christmas Eve. If you love theatre that weaves a spell, don’t miss this enchanting spectacle.
