WowMum App on Indiegogo: CrowdFunding with a Child-Friendly Spin!

March 5, 2014 //  by Uju//  Leave a Comment

WowMum app and WowDad app

Have you ever found yourself in a strange neighbourhood, desperate to find somewhere to change the baby and have a relaxed cuppa when you’re done?

It’s every parent’s challenge, finding genuinely child-friendly places to go. And I’m not talking about those restaurants that chuck some crayons at you and shove you towards the seats near the toilets.

As your resident Babe about Town, I’ve spent the past four years trawling London and beyond, reporting on spots that are cool for kids and parents too. But I can hardly do it alone *wipes brow*.

So I’m delighted to partner with WowMum, a brilliant free smartphone app brought to the market in 2013. Scroll down to find out how you can join forces with WowMum in an exciting Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign!

Founders Jenn and Shruti came up with the idea after they were out with a new mum pal and couldn’t find anywhere comfortable to change and feed her baby.

WowMum child-friendly app

WowMum locates child-friendly places in London and major cities around the UK and US and makes them available to you at the swipe of a finger.

The app is easy to navigate under main categories Eat, Play and Pamper – so it’s handy whether you’re a city mama looking for a gym with a crèche or a dad searching for a baby-friendly pub to watch the footie (yes, there’s a WowDad version).

Users can also add or amend info, with all entries vetted by WowMum’s team before being updated.

WowMum has won loads of acclaim not just from media like BBC London Radio and The Guardian but from the people who matter most, everyday mums.

One popular feature is the Nappy Changing Panic Button that zaps you to the nearest baby-changing spot (if they can invent a Beam Me Up Tantrum button, I’m theirs for life)!

And did I mention it’s completely FREE?

You can also try out the service via the snazzy new WowMum web site.

WowMum Needs your Help to Grow!

WowMum covers 15,000+ locations across the UK alone and it’s constantly evolving. They have big plans to expand, making their service more comprehensive and efficient. And for that, they need the help of mums and dads like us.

WowMum has launched a crowdfunding project on Indiegogo with a target of raising £100,000!

WowMum crowdfunding campaign

If you’re not yet familiar with how crowdfunding works, it’s basically a great way for a community to support cool and innovative projects. For a modest investment, you can earn perks along with the invaluable sense of contributing to something with amazing potential.

For backers of their campaign (pledges start at £1), WowMum will uncover child-friendly facilities in any area of your choice, tailored to you and your family’s needs. Almost like having your own pocket concierge!

And all new WowSpots will be updated on the app and web site, for the benefit of the wider community of mamas and papas.

If you’re a local or family-friendly business, a larger pledge will get you tons of promotion with your ideal customer including 6 months free advertising on the WowMum page.

Additional perks include striking London A-Z prints created by PicNic and funky mobile Gelaskins.

And here’s a trick: with as little as £1 you can boost the WowMum crowdfunding campaign so that Indiegogo will promote it on their front page!

So what can you spare? How about swapping that over-priced coffee to give WowMum a boost? It could do your neighbourhood a world of good.
