Ladybird Classic Me Books (iPad App)

October 3, 2011 //  by Uju//  2 Comments

When we heard that Made in Me, the crew behind one of our top kids’ websites, had come up with an iPad app for Ladybird (their publishing partners), we couldn’t wait to try it out.

Ladybird Classic Me Books is a charming app that offers the old-school magic of Ladybird Learning to Read classics remixed for the 21st century.

Books like Goldilocks and the Gingerbread Man come alive with familiar voices (the likes of comics Adam Buxton and Josie Lawrence) when you touch the text, images or hidden hotspots around the page.

The cool part is that you can personalise each book by recording your own voice and sound effects over and over again.

After our recent trip to London Zoo, Jed loves reading At the Zoo (included with the app). It’s been loads of fun adding our bits to the story, from monkey cackles and bear growls to mewing tigers and kangaroos that go boing.

Ladybird Classic Me Books are a wonderful, interactive way to introduce young ‘uns to the stories you remember from childhood.

It’s also surprisingly poignant after the babes have gone to bed, and I’m (bizarrely) missing their company, to flick through a Me Book and hear my 5-year-old roaring like a nutcase or my 2-year-old giggling through a line of text.

Ladybird Me Books: a bedtime classic for any age.

Ladybird Classic Me Books is available for £0.69 on iPad and iPhone iOS 4.2 or later, in-app purchases £1.99 each
