The first day of the New Year might seem like a strange time to be writing a review post. But sitting here still in my jammies on the evening of the dawn of 2011 finds me in a reflective mood.
I’ve had some pretty life-shaking experiences in the past 5 years: losing a parent, becoming a parent, getting married, moving countries. In those terms, 2010 couldn’t quite compete.
And yet looking back I realise there were at least 5 things last year that, quite literally, changed (or have the power to change) my life.
In order of appearance…
1. Blogging
Technically I’ve been a blogger since the year my first child was born. But it was only when I started Babes about Town last January that I became part of the phenomenon known as social blogging.
At first, running this web site and trying to keep up with the numerous other blogs I discovered and networks I joined threatened to consume me.
I had to scale things back from those intense first months – even so blogging still takes up a good part of my inner sphere and outer focus.
So far, I’m immensely proud of what I’ve achieved with Babes about Town and excited about what this year will bring. I’ve met some pretty cool people both on and offline, had some fab experiences and touched on topics that really connected with my readers.
Maybe this will be the year I get into tweeting as much as blogging. Who knows? It’s 2011 and anything goes.
2. Hoola Hooping
Back in February last year, I persuaded a fellow mama friend to come to a local hoola hooping class.
Little did I know that picking up an adult hoop and learning to swirl it around my body for the first time in years would have such an impact.
Within weeks, I became a hoola addict.
Months later, I didn’t just have two hoops, I OWNED these hoops.
Hooping is fun, confidence-boosting and makes you feel fabulous inside and out. As a hooper, I’ve become part of an amazing global community including my London spin sisters and ultra lovely teacher Charlene.
We’re planning on several ventures to spread the joy of hoopiness in 2011. I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop!
