The Oxbridge Goat Race

April 1, 2010 //  by Uju//  Leave a Comment

Why the long face? Can’t make it to the river this Saturday? Don’t bleat about it.

After all, who needs boats when you can watch Oxford and Cambridge, the Spitalfield goats, go head to head in a madcap dash?

The Oxford vs. Cambridge Goat Race has become an annual tradition at Spitalfields City Farm. The race itself typically clocks in just under a minute, so there’s loads of fun stuff to keep you busy.

Try your hand at the goatee knitting contest, win a luxury hamper filled with wine and goat’s cheese, place bets on the race and stick around for the prize-giving and parade at 5pm.

DJ Pigsnoots will be spinning big tunes while Billy Goats Stuff dishes out goats’ milk Chocolate Easter eggs. Hungrier arrivals can tuck into a tasty spread by the Bruncheon Club.

This year’s race brings the ultimate rivalry into the spotlight as the two contenders are actually siblings. The winner takes all, the loser’s in the soup.

Just kidding.

The Goat Race is on Sat Apr 3 at Spitalfields City Farm near Brick Lane, E1.
