The Passion in the Square

March 31, 2010 //  by Uju//  Leave a Comment

With all the chat about chocolate eggs and Bunnies, it’s easy to forget what the spirit of Easter is actually about.

If you fancy a religious immersion experience, or just an unusual family day out with free live theatre to boot, head to Trafalgar Square on Good Friday.

Passion in the Square is an open-air performance of one of the most famous stories from the most widely read book on earth.

A cast of 100 in period costume (and one donkey) will take to the streets to reenact the drama set in ancient Rome, spanning Judas’ kiss all the way through the crucifixion and resurrection.

With state-of-the-art technology and British Sign Language interpreters on hand to make sure nobody misses out on the action, Passion in the Square is sure to be a crowd-puller.

Some of the scenes might be too intense for the youngest viewers but it’s an uplifting finale in the ultimate tale of true love conquering all.

In any case, it beats staying home and watching Mel Gibson’s gory version on TV.

Passion in the Square kicks off at 3.15pm in Trafalgar Square.
