Time Out for Mama

February 25, 2010 //  by Uju//  10 Comments

So tonight I’m participating in the Time Out Thursday challenge set by the mamagnificent Theta Mom.

The rules: you have to make an hour’s time for yourself sometime during the month, without the rugrats and blog about it.

It sounds simple enough. But for any new mum on daily duty and night shifts, finding a whole hour to concentrate on self-pleasuring (no matter how innocent that pleasure is!) can take serious organisation.

Since I’m coming late to this meme, it’s all a bit last minute. There’s nothing like a babysitter or even a proper date night planned.

Luckily, Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday happens to coincide with the night Mr Babe and I have designated as our ‘unplugged’ time.

That means, with all contact to the outside world switched off, I won’t get a chance to add my post tonight.

So here’s a sneak preview of what I’m hoping my Time Out will look like:

After both boys are miraculously sound asleep on time – at the same time – I’m going to run a hot bath and finally open up those yummy bath salts I got at Xmas. I’ll pour myself a glass of wine, put John Legend on the iPod and relax into a long soak.

Afterwards, slathered in luxurious and deliciously smelly body lotion and cosy in my PJs, I’ll come downstairs, shut down my laptop and put my phone on silent.

Then I’ll settle on the couch with hubby and a good read. I’m halfway through two books already but for my Time Out treat I’m going to indulge in the singular thrill of cracking open a new one.

It’s ‘Cuban Heels’, by Emily Barr, herself a mum of two. This promises to be a light, escapist read – an imaginary ticket to what’s always been my dream destination.

We’ll have something chill like Lupe Fiasco or Nina Simone Remixed in the background.

And before you know it, more than an hour will have gone by and not even a whisper from the baby monitor…

Visit Theta Mom to find out about Time Out Thursdays and link up for this or the next one.

Thank you Theta Mom, for giving me an excuse to indulge myself! Of course I’m already running late and now beset by comment spam… but it’s switch off night so will have to deal tomorrow. Ok, now, unplug…and breathe ;-)

It is indeed, shocks me how rarely I have a bath these days (more of a morning shower gal). Glad you came by Melissa.
